Pesa Bydgoszcz handed over České dráhy (ČD) with additional ten 2-car RegioFox DMUs for Hradec Králové region which will enter operation on the lines Trutnov – Martinice v Krkonoše, Trutnov – Svoboda nad Úpou or Trutnov – Kolín.
“The large-scale change of trains in the Hradec Králové Region continues. Thanks to the ten supplied trains, we have already delivered 1,150 new seats, barrier-free and air-conditioned trains to passengers in the region. The RegioFox DMUs for Hradec Králové Region will replace the older trains, especially the diesel trains from the late 1960s and early 1970s, which no longer meet the travel standards we want to offer our customers, will disappear from the tracks,” said Jiří Ješeta, the Deputy Director General of Czech Railways for passenger transport.
The first RegioFox DMUs for Hradec Králové Region were delivered in August when on-board and workshop staff training began. Passengers were able to use the new trains for the first time on the line from Trutnov to Martinice in Podkrkonoší. As deliveries of new multiple units progress, České dráhy can also expand the deployment of new trains.
Currently, for example, the modern DMUs already ensure the complete operation of express trains from Kolín to Trutnov, respectively due to the current lockout between Kunčice nad Labem and Kolín. Their use of trains in Trutnovsk is also expanding.
“The modernisation of the train fleet in the Hradec Králové region means not only the improvement of travel quality, but also a significant increase in the attractiveness of passenger train transport for all groups of the population. Deliveries of new, barrier-free RegioFox units in our region bring comfort and convenience that has been lacking in regional transport until now,” the Governor of the Hradec Králové Region, Petr Koleta, said.
The new trains will enter passenger services on all region’s main routes. “We believe that all the terms of the contract will be respected so that the public can use all 16 new trains from the start of the new timetable on December 15, 2024,” the governor stated.
After the complete delivery of the new units, the deployment of RegioFox in Hradec Králové Region is planned on the following lines:
- Kolín – Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Stará Paka – Trutnov;
- Hradec Králové – Letohrad / Rokytnice v Orlické hory;
- Choceň – Týniště nad Orlicí – Náchod – Hronov;
- Hradec Králové – Meziměstí – Broumov; and
- Hradec Králové – Trutnov – Svoboda nad Úpou.
RegioFox DMUs are part of ČD’s plan to replace the existing old trains that operated on the lines in Hradec Králové Region. Since the beginning of the summer holidays, passengers have been transported on the lines from the regional capital, Hradec Králové, to Chlumec nad Cidlinou and Týniště nad Orlicí by modern RegioPanter EMU fleet comprising 3 two-car and 4 three-car trains.
Together with the delivery of 33 RegioFox trains, which should be implemented by the end of 2026, this means a total of 40 modern regional trains. The new trains will then ensure more than 60% of all performance in the regional transport of the Hradec Králové region. At the same time, 100% of all regional connections will be operated by barrier-free, low-floor trains, which guarantee comfortable travel for all groups of residents, including seniors, small children, people in wheelchairs, etc.
RegioFox DMUs are barrier-free, air-conditioned trains equipped with a wide range of services for comfortable travel to work, school or for leisure activities. The trains are equipped with Wi-Fi network, power sockets and USB for recharging travel electronics, and audiovisual information system. The trains provide spaces for large luggage, including strollers and space for bicycles.
Czech Railways ordered a total of 106 RegioFoxes from Pesa of which 50 have been taken over and passengers will use them in the Hradec Králové, South Bohemia, Pilsen, Pardubice and Central Bohemia regions, in Prague and also in Vysočín.
