Montenegro: EU to finance Bar-Vrbnica railway project December 11, 2014 The European Commission will provide EUR 22 million in grants for environmental and transport projects in Montenegro, the country’s ministry of sustainable development and tourism said. The environmental projects include, among other, the funding for Bar-Vrbnica railway line rehabilitation. The grants will be provided under the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance. The Bar-Vrbnica railway project involves the rehabilitation of 159 km. The railway line is part of rail Route 4 that provides the most direct access from Vrsac via Belgrade to the Adriatic Sea (Port of Bar). The rehabilitation of the line contributes to the shortening of the travel time, savings of the maintenance costs, and provision of free profile for transport of containers as well as reducing transport costs.
