Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said over that Mombasa – Nairobi line will be completed ahead of the schedule.
Three-quarters of the railway line is almost done, meaning that more than 75 percent civil works have been completed on the first phase of the project, with over 235 km of track laid between Voi and Sultan Hamud.
The second phase is divided three sub-phases and involves the construction of Nairobi – Malaba section (120 km) and the Naivasha– Kisumu section (262 km), including the development of a new high capacity port at Kisumu and the third sub-phase envisage Kisumu –Malaba construction.
According to Kenyatta, the financing has been identified and construction is expected to start in September this year.
