Modernisation of Dugo Selo – Križevci rail continues

Dugo Selo – Križevci rail

Due to the reconstruct the existing infrastructure and the construction of the second track on the Dugo Selo – Križevci rail section and the reduced capacity of the Dugo Selo station, the Crotian rail infrastructure manager, HŽ Infrastruktura, will suspend for one week the trains running on the routes from Zagreb Main Station to Dugo Selo, Vrbovec, Križevci and Novoselec in both directions.

On the Dugo Selo – Križevci rail section, progress is visible at numerous locations along the entire route. From Vrbovec to Križevci, final works are being carried out at stations and stops which include the development of underpasses and parking lots, installation of urban equipment and elevators. These works will be completed by the middle of this year.

On the subsection from Vrbovec to Dugo Selo, with a total length of 12.5 km, work has intensified in all segments in the last few months, HŽ Infrastruktura says. The lower track structure and the construction work on two underpasses have been completed, and the track grid has been laid on certain parts of the route. Of the seven overpasses over the railway, five have been completed, and the remaining two are at a high level of completion. Of the more significant works on this subsection this year, three bridges and several culverts remain to be built, work on the upper structure completed, and, as on the previous subsection, the underpasses and parking lots arranged, and urban equipment and elevators installed. These works are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

As for the work at Dugo Selo station, the work on the new station building have been completed, part of the substructure has been constructed and part of the contact network portal has been installed. On February 17, work will begin on the southern half of the station, which will cause rail traffic to flow on the northern side for most of the year. After the complete reconstruction of the southern part of the station, including half of the underpass, the same will be repeated on the northern part of the station at the end of this year and during 2026, when the final completion of the works on this project is expected.

The implementation of the works along the Dugo Selo – Križevci rail section will enable passenger trains to run at 160 km/h and will allow 750-metre-long 25 tonne-axle load freight trains to operate. The line capacity will also significantly increase, and the travelling times will be reduced while transport service quality will increase.

The 38.2 km Dugo Selo – Križevci rail section is part of the main corridor railway line for international traffic M201 State border – Botovo – Dugo Selo and is located on Rijeka – Zagreb – Budapest on the Mediterranean Corridor.

The modernisation and construction of a 36.4 km second tracks as well as other works, including signalling and interlocking and telecommunication, noise barriers and a new station Gradec have a value of EUR 193.4 million. In 2015, HŽ Infrastruktura signed a EUR 23.5 million grant agreement for the first phase of the through the Transportation Operational Program 2007 – 2013. The second phase has been co-financed through the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 – 2020.

In 2016, a 164.6 million contract has been signed with consortium consisting of DIV Grupa, Dalekovod and Zagreb Montaža and a EUR 2.5 million supervision service contract was awarded to a consortium of Investinženjering and SGS Adriatica, which completed the contract in November 2021.
