Modernisation contract awarded for Hague area tram network

The public transport company in Hague and its surrounding areas, HTM Personenvervoer NV, awarded Powerlines Group Dutch subsidiary, SPL Powerlines Benelux, a EUR 1.85 million contract for the modernisation of five tram routes on RandstadRail network. E-lijn, Samenloop, Stamlijn, Zoetermeerlijn and Oosterheemlijn are the routes to be modernised.
The contract comprises the modernisation of the overhead line system on a length of around 10 km, including the renewal of contact wires, suspension wires, masts and support structures and the installation of section insulators. On large sections, the overhead line system is to be reduced from the currently existing double contact wire system to a single contact wire system. The contract also covers the delivery of all required components.
Modernisation works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2019.
The RandstadRail network is a local mass transit grid that links up The Hague, Rotterdam and Zoetermeer, connecting former rail lines, such as the Zoetermeer City Line and the Hofplein Line, with the tram network in The Hague and the local underground network in Rotterdam.
Between The Hague and Zoetermeer this network is served by low-floor trams, and between The Hague and Rotterdam by high-floor trams similar to underground trains.
