Belarus completed the electrification of Minsk-Vilnius railway line. Belarus Railways and China United Engineering Corp have finalised the electrification of its 84 km double-track section from Maladzečna to Kena (at the border), for which USD 72 million was covered by China Exim Bank. This was the final section for the electrification of Minsk-Vilnius. On Lithuania’s territory, the line was electrified from the border to Naujoji Vilnia (a neighborhood in eastern Vilnius), in a length of 27 km.
On September 13, a passenger train run from Minsk to Vilnius. Regular passenger services between the two capitals will start in December. On the route, Lithuanian Railways will use Škoda Class 575 double-deck EMUs and Belarus will use Stadler Flirt EMUs.
