Minister of Transport authorised South Wales Metro system feasibility study

Metro for South WalesA feasibility study has been authorised to explore options to include Beddau, Llantrisant and Talbot Green in the South Wales Metro system, WalesOnline reports.
Pontypridd Assembly Member Mick Antoniw is leading a campaign to extend the South East Wales project further within the Taff Ely area – and has received a boost with the news Welsh Government Minister for Economy, Science and Transport Edwina Hart has authorised a feasibility study for the proposal.
Antoniw also confirmed a Welsh Government grant to Rhondda Cynon Taf council will fund the two-stage study.
Stage one will look at ‘quick wins’ including the extended use of buses, while the second phase will consider the potential to include the Taff Ely destinations in the long-term Metro system.
The proposed integrated Metro transport network for South East Wales is a huge, 20-year project to bring a long-awaited overhaul to the transport network – including the more efficient aligning of bus and rail links.
