The new ‘Portello’ station has been opened on Milan’s M5 metro line, four months ahead of schedule. ‘Portello’ is the latest metro station to open on Milan’s M5 Metro Line, the city’s first driverless system equipped with a communications-based train control (CBTC) system. 19 trains operate along the M5 line with three minute frequencies during peak hours and four minutes at other times and offering a total journey time of 30 minutes for the expected 55,000 daily passengers to cross the city from east to west.
