The Metrolink Board of Directors voted to decrease fares for trips 20 miles and under. The lower fares will go into effect on 1 July, marking the second time in 2016 fares for short-distance trips have been decreased on Metrolink trains.
“Lowering fares for these short trips will make Metrolink more appealing and competitive with other forms of transportation. We are pleased to offer these discounts to our current passengers and to new riders, as well,” said Chair of the Metrolink Board of Directors Shawn Nelson.
In January, Metrolink lowered fares by introducing a $3 “Station-to-Station” fare pilot program for a period of six months for one-way and roundtrip passes. The $3 “Station-to-Station” fare pilot was only available for select tickets. The present decision makes the reduced short-distance fares available to all ticket types, including monthly passholders.
Metrolink is Southern California’s regional commuter rail service.
