A 1.5 kilometre stretch of the elevated rail line between Dandenong and Westall station is the first section on which commercial operations have started in Melbourne’s east. The first section also includes a new station at Noble Park.
The elevated rail line is built as a solution to increase transport safety by removing dangerous level crossings. The first Skyrail section has allowed the removal of level crossings from Corrigan, Heatherton and Chandler roads. Nine level crossings on the Cranbourne-Pakenham corridor will be replaced in total when the project is completed. The final section of the elevated rail corridor will be completed before the end of the year.
“We have delivered the removal of these deadly, congested level crossings so that we can have a safer community, a community that we can move through more easily,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.
