Starting with 9 May, Alstom has begun the production of metro trains for Lucknow metro trains, the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has announced. The trains will be manufactured at Sri City plant, near Chennai.
The coaches will be transported from Sri City, Chennai to LMRC depot in Lucknow by special trailers through road which shall further be assembled in the depot for its testing and commissioning for the first phase of metro operations.
In September 2015, LRMC awarded a contract to Alstom to supply 80 metro cars for 20 train sets of four car each for North South Corridor of Lucknow Metro Phase-1A project covering 22 stations.
While the first set of 4 coaches to run on priority section from Transport Nagar to Charbagh will be delivered by October this year, the rest of the coaches will gradually be sent in a phased manner over a period of 36 months.
