Manila North-South commuter riail project to be tendered in 2018

Philippines’ Department of Transport (DOTr) announced that the tender on Malolos-Tutuban construction will be launched next year. The project is part of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project in Manila Metro, financed by Japan.
According to DOTr project development manager Mikaela Eloisa Mendoza, the detailed engineering design for the project would be completed within the year while the procurement process would start next year.
The value of the project is PHP 242 billion (USD 4.8 billion) and it is financed by a JICA loan. In September 2016, Japan has announced that will provide a USD 2.4 billion loan for the new railway project in Manila Metro.
The project involves the construction of a 38 km line on Tutuban- Manila- Malolos-Bulacan route, the acquisition of new rolling stock and installation of electro-mechanical systems.
The project is aimed at expanding the transit network in Metro Manila to ease traffic congestion and to spur development in surrounding areas. The line, which is expected to be operational in 2022, would be able to service around 300,000 passengers daily.
