Lithuania: LG announces higher revenues in first seven months

Lithuanian state-run railway company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LG) generated revenues of 242 million euros in January–July 2017, up by 3.8% from the same period of 2016. Freight haulage grew by 6.5% to 28.99 million tons in the first seven months of 2017 year-on-year, while passenger traffic went up by 4% to 2.7 million people.

Over the first seven months of this year, exports cargo surged by 24.6%, imports freight went up by 2.6%, and transit via Lithuania accounted for 21.6%. The total number of international freight grew by 10.2% to 21 million tons. The volume on international routes was 7.98 million tons, a decline by 2% year-on-year, however, the railway company hopes to raise the traffic volumes during the grain transportation period.

A total of 6.3 million tons of cargo were transported across Lithuania’s territory over the seven-month period, while imports accounted for the bulk of the cargo at 12.1 million tons.
