Public transport company Daugavpils Satiksme has named as winner of the tender for the supply of trams for Daugavpils city a union of Belarus company Belkommunmas and Latvian Virtus SV. The value of the contract is EUR 2 million.
Daugavpils Satiksme launched an open tender for the supply of trams in early 2016 in order to develop environmentally-friendly public transport infrastructure in Daugavpils city. There were four bidders in the tender.
In order to facilitate the use of environmentally friendly public transportation and increase the number of passengers using public transportation in the city, EUR 12.2 mln worth of Cohesion Funding will be available to Daugavpils to develop its tram infrastructure. This funding will be used to continue the restoration and modernization of the city’s trams, as well as the reconstruction of current tram lines and the construction of a new tram line.
