After adding new trains to its network, the Latvian passenger rail operator Pasazieru vilciens (PV) plans to increase passenger volumes by one-third, which would in monetary terms equal about EUR 25.7 million per year, the company’s board chairman Andris Lubans said.
In 2014, the company collected EUR 17.5 million worth of revenue from ticket sales to passengers. However, passenger numbers have reduced by 15% the past five years, which is mostly explained by Latvia’s overall population decrease.
Lubans explained that the most important criteria for passengers are tickets prices and time of travel, thus the company plans to look at how to improve these criteria and introduce additional ticket discounts.
The company also plans on increasing the train occupancy rate from 50 to 60%.
Pasazieru vilciens also plans to improve the number of services provided to train passengers, with the aim of making rides more comfortable for them.
