Irrespective of political affairs, Latvia and Russia should continue cooperating in the transport sector, said Latvian Transport Minister Uldis Augulis at the 11th international railway business forum 1520 Strategic Partnership in Sochi.
“The first topic in our conversation with [Russian Transport Minister Maxim] Sokolov was the Latvian-Russian agreement on direct international railway traffic. We are waiting for Russia to coordinate it and then we can sign it,” said Uldis Augulis.
“We discussed cooperation in rail cargo transportation so that we can “hold together” the transit sector irrespective of political relations. We had an agreement on cooperation, but, of course, there is a drop in cargo transportation in the whole world,” added Uldis Augulis.
Latvia is represented at the forum by the Transport Ministry and the railway company Latvijas Dzelzcels.
