The Municipal Council of Kuwait approved the construction of the first phase of the GCC Railway Network to enter Kuwait. The Council agreed that several premises will have to be moved, while allowing the railway to cut through other property. Kuwait’s section of the GCC Railway Network will enable freight and passengers to move from Al Abdali near the border with Iraq, all the way to Oman. The Municipal Council agreed to let the railway pass through the southern air base, cutting over two million square metres from the air base’s total area. Finally the Ministry of Communication was ordered to co-ordinate all relevant work with the relevant government departments during the construction phase of the mega project.
