The Technical Center of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has developed a programme for the production of freight cars, which is supported at the state level. This project is aimed at updating the rolling stock fleet and the definition of unified technical requirements for freight cars production in Kazakhstan. KTZ will use the freight cars of its own production. The implementation of Freight Cars Development Programme will increase the production of domestic freight cars to 6,000 wagons per year, and it is planned to open more than 1,500 workplaces.
“New covered wagons, open wagons, tanks and platforms cars will have access for operation in interstate communication and are certified for compliance with mandatory requirements established by Technical Regulations for rolling stock,” the Director of KTZ Technical Center, Azamat Zhangeldy, said.
Increased load capacity, efficiency and life-cycle cost and the reduction of weight are among key requirements for the new rolling stock to be manufactured by the Technical Center. “In addition to updating the railway rolling stock with modern freight cars, this will increase the overall fleet capacity, speed, quality of services and security of transport,” Zhangeldy said.
The technical requirements for freight cars will be approved before the end of this year, and the mechanisms for realizing and financing the programme with financial institutions are being worked out.
“The working group is considering options for allocating funds for the production of the freight cars. Within the framework of state support, new measures are envisaged to provide preferences to manufacturing plants, import substitution and increase the share of local content,” Zhangeldy said.
