Kenya prepares land acquisition under SGR phase 2A

Kenya Railways announced that members of the public whose homes and properties lie along the corridor of the Nairobi – Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project will soon be called upon to relocate in order to pave way for the construction of the line.
Kenya Railways has contracted Ecoplan Management Ltd and Earthscope Survey Services to provide consultancy services for the preparation of a Resettlement Action Plan for the Phase 2A of the SGR project. The process involves preparing through a consultative process, the projects Potential Impacts and Mitigation Mechanisms, carrying out a census of the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) along the project’s corridor, determine the socio-economic characteristics of the PAPs and develop an inventory of the affected assets.
Phase 2A of the SGR runs across parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Nakuru and Narok counties and covers a distance of 120 km. For this section of the project, the length of the subgrade will be 87.98 km which accounts for 73.3 per cent of the project’s total length, the length of the bridgeworks is 23.96 km accounting for 20 per cent of the projects total length and the length of the tunnels is 7.756 km accounting for 6.7 per cent of the project’s total length.
