Kazakhstan opens Almaty-Shu second track

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Almaty-Shu second railway track together with an overpass through the railway on the Almaty-Chemolgan highway, both projects being carried out under the “Nurly Zhol” national programme.
The second track, with a length of 113 km, was built in two years. Under the project, 16 stations have been modernised, 13 bridges and overpasses have been built, and 156 km of electric power lines have been installed.
Using this second track, the capacity of the line will increase by fourth times, being vital for rail freight transport, as this is one of the country’s busiest line.
A new highway Eltay-Merei with a length of 1.7 km and a 740-meter overpass in the village of Eltai has also been built.
The line “opens new opportunities for the development of trans-Kazakhstan routes, will speed up the movement of trains, expand communication links between the regions of the country. We are actively working to develop transcontinental transport between Europe and Asia, modernize and build new infrastructure to shorten the delivery time,” KTZ president Kanat Alpysbayev said, during the official ceremony.
