Kyrgyz government will ask the developer of Kara-Keche coal field to build railway for coal transportation to Bishkek, AkiPress reports.
The scale of the Kara-Keche coal field development is comparable to development of the Kumtor mine and rehabilitation of the Toktogul hydropower plant, Adilet Akmataliyev, Chief of Industry, Subsurface Use, Fuel and Energy Complex Division of the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Kara-Keche, a sprawling deposit containing about 430 million tons of coal in mountainous Naryn Province, is a key asset for Kyrgyzstan’s struggling economy.
A railway line that will connect the deposit to the town of Balykchy, and from here, to the existing line to Bishkek would determine an increase in transport volume and will reduce the delivery time of coal.
