The JR Ishinomaki Line in Miyagi Prefecture resumed full service after the massive tsunami spawned by the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake wrecked it, The Japan Times reports.
According to JR East, the last damaged section between Urashuku and Onagawa stations, a distance of 2.3 km, reopened. It is the first of the tsunami-damaged passenger lines in Miyagi to resume full operation.
“After four years, we have at last reached this point. It will take some more time to fully rebuild our town, but we will move forward,” Onagawa Mayor Yoshiaki Suda said.
