Japan to fund Manila – Bulacan rail project

manilaJapan has announced that will provide a USD 2.4 billion loan for a new railway project in Manila Metro.
The project involves the construction of a 34 km elevated commuter line that will connect Tutuban, in Manila to Malolos, in Bulacan province and the construction of 15 rail stations.
“This is one of the biggest projects Japan has ever embarked upon using the yen loan. This is a project that needs to be done very, very quickly,” Masato Ohtaka, deputy press secretary for Japan’s foreign ministry said.
Manila-Bulacan line would start by early 2017 and the project would be finished in the latter part of 2020.
340,000 passengers per day are expected to use the line.
