The Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co. (Nishitetsu) will introduce new 9000 series commuter trains with modern amenities, manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. The new 9000 series trains will run on the Tenjin-Omuta Line connecting Fukuoka-Tenjin Station to Omuta Station (Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture), starting from March 2017.
The new trains will be equipped with liquid-crystal display panels above the doors to provide station information and illumination via energy-efficient LED lamps, which will cut electricity consumption in half compared with current models.
Over the next 10 years, the new model will replace the 5000 series, in operation since 1975.
