The Jakarta-Bandung railway project will not be completed on the scheduled deadline in 2019 due to problems in land acquisition, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno said. Currently, the land acquisition only reached 54% (55 km) of the 140-kilometer total length of the project.
“The project location was only decided on 31 October 2017. There are still many plots of land, [whose conversion from forest land] should be agreed on by the Environment and Forestry Ministry,” Minister Rini Soemarno said.
Out of the acquired 55 km of land, the builder has already prepared the construction on 22 km and conducted land clearance on the remaining 33 km. Construction works will start this month. The project is carried out by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia Cina (KCIC), a consortium of state-owned enterprises and China Railways through a business-to-business plan. The construction is expected to be completed in October 2020.
