Azerbaijan Railways signed, in Baku, two MoUs with Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and Mercitalia Intermodal, during the State visit of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
Under the MoU, FS Italiane and Azerbaijan Railways will develop rail freight traffic using Baku – Tbilisi – Kars line, allowing transport services from Italy, to Central Asia, Iran and China, through the Turkish port of Mersin.
Mercitalia Intermodal, a subsidiary of Mercitalia Polo, will manage the railway transport service from Italy to Turkish port of Mersin. On the other hand, Azerbaijan Railways will provide services for container logistics and rail transport from Turkey to Central Asia and China.
Mercitalia Intermodal, the major intermodal operator in Italy and the third one in Europe, organizes road-rail combined transport and door-to-door transports services in Italy and abroad, managing a rail freight network connecting more than 150 intermodal terminals throughout Europe.
