Sony announced that PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ), a rail operator in Indonesia, will implement FeliCa technology for its IC ticket operation.
KCJ plans to launch contactless card tickets as well as FeliCa embedded wristbands and NFC mobile phone service to provide passengers with a number of attractive options for traveling efficiently on its rail network. Starting in February 2015 with the new card and wristband, KCJ plans to expand its supported devices from the middle of 2015 to also include NFC mobile phones, in order to allow a large volume of passengers to benefit from a variety of convenient (FeliCa) contactless form factors.
“KCJ wants to harness Sony`s experience in providing FeliCa card as well as mobile technology to improve the lives of our passengers. The ability to read all types of chip will ease intermodal integration in the future because our devices are able to identify any type of electronic tickets that other transportation operators may develop later. KCJ will have one of the most advanced electronic ticketing systems in Asia Pacific,” Tri Handoyo, CEO of PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek said.
KCJ operates a rail system covering the metropolitan area of Jakarta, with 64 stations covering 182 km and serving 700,000 passengers on a daily basis.
