India’s Ministry of Railways launched Smart Freight Operation Optimisation & Real Time Information (SFOORTI) application for monitoring and managing freight transport using Geographic Information System (GIS) views and dashboard.
According to the ministry, with this application, both passenger and freight trains can be tracked, the freight business can be monitored, the system can provide analysis on new traffic and traffic lost, all freight assets can be viewed in a single window. In addition, the application provides information on the expected traffic at interchange points to evaluate daily performance, as well as on the performance of each zone and divisions with respect to loading and utilization of freight assets.
The system can also provide sectional performance monitoring for sections, divisions and zones shall help in traffic routing.
The new application was developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
