India starts operating first semi-high speed train

04-indiaThe Indian Railways have started operating the country’s first semi-high speed train, the Gatimaan Express. The new express train connects the national capital’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station and Agra Cantonment station and can attain a maximum speed of 160 km per hour.
The trains will operate six days a week, except Friday. The Gatiman Express trains consist of two executive AC chair cars and eight AC chair car coaches. The LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches were fabricated by Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala.
“The launch of this train heralds a new era of high-speed rail travel in India,” the Railway Ministry announced.
