Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao urged Union railways minister Suresh Prabhu to waive the massive Rs 80 crore (11.5 million euros) that South Central Railway (SCR) demands towards traffic blockage charges to allow the metro rail to be built over the railway lines in the city. No such charges were levied on the Metros in Bangalore and Chennai, the chief minister pointed out. In all, the three corridors of the Metro cross SCR railway lines at eight points in the city. The railways minister promised the chief minister that he would call a meeting of railway engineers shortly to sort out the issue.
