The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision on the independent CEO of state-monopoly Ukrainian Railways – Ukrzaliznytsia.
Wojciech Balczun was appointed, by the Government, the Head of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia. The new director has over 15 years of professional experience, including 7 years of experience in railway transport of Poland holding the posts of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Polish Railways RRB S. A. and Director General of PKP Cargo S. A. He conducted a large-scale management restructuring in PKP Cargo, introduced a headcount optimization program, built a new management team, brought a loss-making company to profitability and prepared the company to IPO.
During his five years within the Polish rail freight operator, from 2008 to 2013, Balczun turned PKP Cargo round from making a USD 26-million annual loss to a company earning more than USD130 million annual profit (in 2011).
The new manager was elected by an independent commission comprised of government and international organizations representatives as well as headhunters from among 79 candidates.
