Inaugural trip with Queensland’s first NGR train

On December 12, Queensland Rail made the inaugural passenger journey with country’s first New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) train travelling from the Gold Coast through to Brisbane.
“These services marked the beginning of the next era of rail travel in Queensland, with the 75 new trains set to modernise and grow our existing fleet and service the people of Queensland for the next 30 years. From today, three of the 75 new trains are available for service and more will progressively roll out on the network as they complete the rigorous testing and commissioning process,” Queensland Rail Chief Executive Officer Nick Easy said.
Country’s project has a value of AUD 4.4 billion (USD 3.3 billion) involving the acquisition of 75 new trains providing 10,000 seats on the Citytrain network.
The contract was awarded at the end of 2013 to the Bombardier-led consortium known as Qtectic, made up of Bombardier Transportation, John Laing, Itochu and Aberdeen Infrastructure Investments Limited.
