Inter-American Development Bank will provide a USD 70 million loan for the construction of the first section of Bogotá’s First Metro Line (PLMB).
This decision allows Metro de Bogotá to launch international bidding process, under the rules of the multilateral bank, aimed at selecting the company or group of companies that will develop the project.
The selection procedure envisages two phases. The first one consists in the prequalification of the interested companies, which will have to provide documentation that certifies their current, technical, financial and legal experience and capacity. Only the companies or consortia that manage to overcome the first stage will participate in the second phase. Then Metro de Bogotá will publish the specifications and final designs, based on which the prequalified companies will present their economic offers.
The schedule and the rules for prequalification will be announced on 6 August.
The project envisages a 23.9-km elevated line which will cover the area with the biggest demand for transport services in town, in Caracas Avenue between 1 and 72 streets. The construction works begin in 2020 and operations are predicted to begin in 2024.
