The city council of Debrecen and the National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF) signed an agreement on the renovation of the city’s main railway station, as part of a HUF 21 billion (EUR 68.6 million) intermodal development co-funded by the European Union.
The project will create an intermodal passenger transport hub linking the railway and bus networks. The 20,000 square-meter bus station will be moved underground, while main road no. 4 will also be linked with the intermodal center underground.
Construction work is scheduled to start next spring, with the new main railway station expected to open in 2019.
