Hübner to deliver gangway systems for VDV tram-trains

Stadler has selected Hübner to supply up to 1,008 gangway systems for CityLink vehicles under the VDV tram-train project. Under the contract Hübner will also be responsible for maintenance services for a period of 32 years.

The CityLink vehicles will be equipped differently for the various customers in the consortium, with varying lengths and different numbers of doors. Between 2023 and 2031, Hübner will therefore deliver three different gangway variants for the six operators in the project consortium.

“For Hübner, the VDV Tram-Train order is of great strategic importance – and at the same time it is confirmation of our continuing mission to supply customers efficiently, reliably and in HÜBNER’s well-known high quality,” Kai Mentel, Senior Vice President Mobility Rail said.

The gangway systems to be installed in the future tram-train vehicles will consist of a double-corrugated bellows, a turning plate with floor covering as well as a radial articulation specially developed by Hübner to meet the requirements of the CityLink vehicles.

The production of the first gangway systems will start at the beginning of 2023.

In January 2022, six German and Austrian transport companies awarded Stadler a EUR 4 billion contract for the supply of 504 vehicles with a firm order for 246 CityLink tram-trains worth EUR 1.7 billion. The first four vehicles will be delivered to the Saarbahn in 2024. The project consortium also has the option to order up to 258 additional vehicles.
