“The decision to create a joint venture between the Japanese company Hitachi and Transmashholding will be taken in 2018,” said Andrei Bokarev, President of Transmashholding.
There are still negotiations on this issue, but by mid-2018 a decision will be made to determine whether the new joint venture will be based in one of Transmashholding’s production plants.
Bokarev added that „according to the plans of the two companies, the new joint venture will produce asynchronous electric traction motors.”
The signing of a Memorandum for the creation of a joint venture between Hitachi and Transmashholding initially took place in September on the occasion of the Eastern Economic Forum, held in Vladivostok, Russia.
Transmashholding is the largest rolling stock and railway equipment producer in Russia. The company owns 17 factories on the territory of Russia in different regions, specializing in the construction of freight and passenger locomotives, diesel locomotives, in the manufacture of freight and passenger cars, suburban trains and metro cars, as well as diesel engines for locomotives. The company also produces generators and other railway equipment.
The Hitachi concern is one of the world’s most known and brings together a number of companies, both in Japan and other countries, specialized in the construction of electric trains as well as in the manufacture of electronic equipment, construction equipment and machinery. In 2015, Hitachi acquired Italian companies Ansaldo STS and AnsaldoBreda.
