Hitachi to supply driverless trains for Copenhagen Metro

Hitachi Rail Italy has signed a contract with Metroselskabet, a partnership of the municipality of Copenhagen, the Danish Government and the city of Frederiksberg, for the supply of eight driverless trains for the M1/M2 lines of the Copenhagen Metro. The contract has a value of approximately EUR 50 million.
All vehicles are driverless metros. The eight new metro trains will be delivered by 2020 and will have similar features as the Cityringen vehicles with some necessary adaptations to run on the M1/M2 lines. The trains will have the state-of-the-art technology already developed for the Cityringen vehicles. The internal layout will be designed to increase transport capacity, in line with the needs of the service. The signalling and communication systems, which are included in the contract, will be provided by Ansaldo STS.
“The contract signed in Copenhagen confirms our company’s ability to offer products and services that provide a comfortable, safe and reliable journey for passengers, giving our customers the means to run a smooth revenue service. This in turn allows us to create solid and long-term relationships,” said Maurizio Manfellotto, CEO Hitachi Rail Italy.
