Crossing the center of Ankara, the Istanbul – Ankara – Sivas, Ankara – Afyon – Izmir and Ankara – Konya were identified as the core network of the Ankara – Istanbul railway corridor. Works are ongoing on the Bursa – Bilecik rail section and, when the project is completed the travel time between Bursa and Istanbul will be reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes. The 3 hours and 30 minutes travel time on the Ankara – Izmir rail line will reduce the entire travel time on the Ankara – Istanbul corridor. The reduction in the travel time on the Ankara – Istanbul high speed rail line continues with the construction works on the Polatlı-Afyon cut.
Also, a high speed rail line is planned from Istanbul, Mersin and Adana to Mardin. Antalya also facilitates the connection of Istanbul to the Antalya – Burdur – Isparta – Afyon – Kutahya – Eskișehir rail line, where works started for the high speed train project.
