The City of Helsinki ordered an additional 10 ForCity Smart Artic trams from Transtech Oy, with a total value of EUR 30 million.
The one-directional three-part ForCity Smart Artic, designed for a gauge of 1,000 mm, is a fully low-floor tram with a length of 27.4 m. The vehicle offers barrier-free access for wheelchair users and prams. The all-wheel drive and robust chassis and axle design enables trouble-free operation in challenging climatic conditions.
“The future growth of the city of Helsinki is very much based on increasing tram transportation. Helsinki City Transport (HKL) and the citizens in Helsinki have been satisfied with the experiences of ForCity Smart Artic trams. It is therefore easy to make this decision to increase our Artic fleet,” Ville Lehmuskoski, CEO of Helsinki City Transport said.
Previously the city has ordered 60 ForCity Smart Arctic trams and in total, the city ordered 99 Transtech trams valuated at EUR 300 million.
There are currently 48 ForCity Smart Artic trams operating in Helsinki, with the first Artic trams being put into service since 2013.
