The City of Helsinki announced that Crown Bridges LRT project is currently underway, as the alliance will soon announce the target cost and the incentive system and will carry out earthmoving and construction work.
The alliance will also perform street construction and infrastructure development on the light rail connection.
The members of the Crown Bridges alliance are the City of Helsinki, YIT Suomi, NRC Group Finland, Ramboll Finland, Sweco Infra & Rail and Sitowise.
Crown Bridges LRT project will link the Laajasalo district of eastern Helsinki, the Korkeasaari island and the new Kalasatama district to the Helsinki city centre with a 10-km-long light rail line. The project also includes the construction of a deport and housing units in Laajasalo.
The project will be implemented as a combination of two components: the two bridges between Kalasatama and Kruunuvuorenranta and the Korkeasaari earthmoving and construction work will constitute an all-in contract call for bids in 2020-21. Other construction work will comply with the alliance model.
The work that constitutes the lump-sum contract will be separate from the scope of the alliance, because the plans for the bridges of Kruunuvuorensilta and Finkensilta were drawn up in conjunction with the design competition that was held earlier.
A 1.5-year alliance development phase was launched at the end of November 2019. During this phase, the City of Helsinki and the companies of the bridge design competition’s winning team will draw up the final content of the project in the scope of the alliance as well as a plan for implementation.
The main construction work is estimated to start in 2021 and it is expected to be completed in 2026.
