Great Britain registered a deline in rail freight transport

freight-moved-infographicBritain’s Office of Rail and Road (ORR) announced that in April-June 2015 rail freight transport declined by 17.7% from 5.56 billion net tonne km to 4.58 billion net tonne km, when compared to the same period last year. The main driver was the reduction in the amount of coal moved – from 1.66 billion net tonne km to 0.64 billion net tonne km (a drop of 61.2%).
According to ORR data, four of the seven commodities (which include coal, construction, domestic intermodal, international, oil and petroleum, metals, and other) moved by rail freight recorded a fall compared with the same quarter last year.
