Five years after the initially timeframe set for the inauguration, the first light rail line in the Spanish city of Granada finally began passenger services on September 21.
The north-south 15.9 km linking Albolote and Armilla serves 26 stations and includes a downtown 3 km tunnel with three underground stations.
According to the estimates, the line will carry 12.6 million passengers in the first year of operation, a figure that will increase to 12.9 million passengers in 2019 and 13.5 million passengers in 2020.
The passenger services are operated by a fleet of 15 Urbos LRVs delivered by CAF, one of the Spanish rolling stock manufacturers.
