Go Rail suspends rail link between Russia and Estonia

07_estoniaEstonia’s Go Rail operator has suspended the service between Tallinn and Moscow, after suspending routes to St. Petersburg earlier this month. The cancellations were due to the sharp drop in the number of passengers, according to Go Rail’s director Alar Pinsel. The number of travelers from Russia to Estonia declined by 43% in March, compared to the same period in 2014, Estonia’s state statistics department said in a statement.
Trains between Tallinn and Moscow had been running for 65 years, and the suspension comes less than two weeks before the route’s anniversary on 30 May. Estonia’s state-run Eesti Raudtee railways is in talks with RZD about resuming rail travel between Moscow and Tallinn.
