This railway project will have a positive impact on the economic competitiveness of Germany but also on the quality of the people’s everyday life. This high-quality rail connection will contribute to reducing in the medium term the travel time between Munich to Berlin to four hours instead of six, improving the travel conditions of commuters,’Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu said.
The new line from Erfurt to Leipzig/Halle is a standard-gauge, double-track electrified railway line for high-speed passenger and freight traffic. It has a total length of 123 kilometres.
The track layout is designed for a maximum speed of 300 km/h per hour.
