GE and rail and ports operator Transnet announced a digital partnership to seamlessly connect shippers and transport operators. The solution will be enabled by Predix, the operating system for the Industrial Internet and connect shippers and transport operators by providing real-time, data-driven insights on the status of shipments.
The solution will take laborious processes, like payment, customs and inspection, from paper to digital, and creates an on-demand solution for transporting freight inspired by consumer on-demand transportation models.
“The solution will be key in optimizing freight efficiency and bringing products to market faster and for less cost across the continent,” said Transnet’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Siyabonga Gama.
“The digital partnership we’re embarking on with Transnet will not only improve Africa’s transport sector but unlock enormous opportunity for the supply chain fueling Africa’s economy,” said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt.
