Frankfurt orders Citadis trams

Frankfurt public transport operator, Stadtwerke Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF), awarded Alstom a EUR 100 million contract for the supply of 38 Citadis trams, with an additional option for 15 vehicles. The first two trams will be delivered in 2020 and will run throughout the city’s entire tramway network. Within the contract, Alstom will also provide training, repair equipment and warranty services.
The three-car Citadis tram for Frankfurt will be 31.5 metres long with a maximum capacity of 197 passengers, with double-doors along the entire length of the tram for enhanced accessibility.
It is a fully low-floor vehicle, offering superior passenger experience with large glass surfaces, LEDs for soft, homogeneous lighting, large individual seats and travel information on large screens. It includes innovations such as driver assistance systems, automatic dipped beam and rain sensors.
The new trams will be produced under special adaptations characteristics for the German market such as four pivoting bogies, which will allow maximum vehicular flexibility, and carriages made of steel.
