Forrestfield Station artist impressions unveiled

forrestfield stationWestern Australia’s Transport Minister Bill Marmion released artist impressions of the future Forrestfield Station that will include a major car park and bus interchange. The station is expected to open in 2020.
“With eight bus bays and four layover bays, up to 2,500 parking bays for vehicles, a kiss-and-ride lane and cycling facilities, people will have a multitude of travel choices when the station opens,” Marmion said.
The station is part of the USD 1.4 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project, which will create an estimated 2,000 new jobs during the construction phase.
The Forrestfield-Airport Link project will involve construction of an 8.5 km rail spur off the Midland Line with twin-bored tunnels under the Swan River.
Forrestfield-Airport Link is a new train line that will connect Forrestfield to the city, opening up Perth’s eastern suburbs to the rail network for the first time and giving Perth Airport users a travel option five minutes faster than by car.
The project is jointly funded by the Western Australian and Australian governments (USD 365 million). The Public Transport Authority awarded the design, construct and 10-year maintenance contract to a Salini Impregilo – NRW Joint Venture (SI-NRW) in April 2016.
