Talgo completed the manufacturing the first trainset for for Saudi Arabia, shipped by special cargo vessel, from the Port of Barcelona to Jeddah. This first train is composed of 13 coaches and 2 power heads.
Under the “High-speed Pilgrim train” project, Talgo shall design, manufacture and supply 36 high-speed trains, as well as guarantee the rolling stock correct operation and carry out maintenance works in the next 12 years.
These trains will run on the Mecca-Medina route at a speed of up to 300 km/h, covering the distance of 450 km.
The model of train supplied under this project is the high-speed Talgo 350, commonly known in the railway industry as “El Pato”(“The Duck”), because of the aerodynamic shape of its power heads, which gives them a certain resemblance to this bird. The streamline design also contributes to the maximum reduction of noise pollution produced by air resistance at high speed.
