Warsaw – Berlin express railThe Vectron locomotive of Cargounit has started passenger operation on Warsaw – Berlin express rail route. The electric locomotive and its passengers arrived in the German capital on December 19, 2022. The service was operated by DB Fernverkehr, together with PKP Intercity, which operates the BWE (Berlin – Warsaw Express) route. This is the first of a dozen Siemens locomotives offered by Cargounit dedicated to passenger traffic.

“We are pleased to be able to respond to the growing market demand by offering modern multi-system locomotives such as the Vectron, adapted to both freight and passenger traffic. So far we have ordered as many as 31 Siemens locomotives, and one of them is just starting on the tracks with passengers,” Łukasz Boroń, CEO of Cargounit said.

The state-of-the-art Vectron multi-system locomotives manufactured by Siemens Mobility are the key to handling a wide variety of freight tasks across Europe and to growth in the intermodal segment. Vectrons are versatile locomotives, with a modular design that allows easy adaptation to the requirements of use and specific driving characteristics in different countries.

“The basic premise of the Vectrons’ design was the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the traction tasks in national and international traffic, both freight and passenger. We are pleased that the Vectron Cargounit will regularly run with passengers on the very important Warsaw – Berlin express rail, thus joining other Siemens locomotives – Hussars – successfully moving between the capitals of Poland and Germany,” Hubert Meronk, CEO of Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o. said.

In December, Cargounit received 8 locomotives from Siemens Mobility (6 Vectrons and 2 Smartron locomotives) and ordered additional Vectron locomotives which are intented to be used on the Romanian market. In total, the Polish locomotive rental company will have a fleet of Siemens Mobility locomotives made of up to 31 electric locomotives.

Polish railway operators and carriers have already purchased more than 100 modern Siemens electric locomotives comprsing Husars, Vectrons and Smartrons vehicles. They are used on a daily basis by Cargounit, PKP Intercity, PKP Cargo, DB Cargo Polska, Lotos Kolej, Freightliner PL and Laude Smart Intermodal.
