The Central Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic discussed and approved the feasibility study of the railway junction Ostrava for further progress of project preparation. The winning option is a complete repair of a hitherto not modernized section of the railway junction Ostrava between stations Ostrava-Svinov and Ostrava hlavní nádraží, including the establishment of a new outside-level rearrangement which removes collision runs of trains in individual directions.
“The adjustment expects tripling of the track in the section between Ostrava-Svinov and Ostrava hlavní nádraží with expansion to a four-track solution in the circuit of the station Ostrava hlavní nádraží. Modernization will ensure the passage of trains at a speed of 120 km/h. In other sections of the railway junction in Ostrava, for instance, a platform of Ostrava-Stodolní station will be extended from 200 to 300 metres. Ostrava střed station will also be under modernization. Outside-level wheelchair access to the platform with a height of 550 mm above the top of rail will be constructed,” said Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.
Total investment costs of the selected option are 7.648 billion Czech crowns (283 million euros). The actual implementation of the project will take place in 2021-2025. The launching of tenders for a designer of preparatory documentation and intent of construction project is planned for this year. The subsequent tender for the processing of project documentation is expected in 2019.
